Oral Rehydration & Sport Hydration
Oral Rehydration Solutions were first introduced in 1931 to treat dehydration and prevent deaths during a terrible Cholera Pandemic in Western Europe. Since then, with some improvements, many brands have taken the ORS formula and used it for sports hydration purposes since it is proven to replenish fluids and electrolytes lost from sweating during exercise. The majority of ORS brands stick to the same oral rehydration formula, similar to the one used to treat diarrhea and vomiting, and simply add their own packaging (and a heap load of sugar to improve the taste).
The SOS Special Formula
At SOS, we have taken the science and reformulated it to create an oral rehydration solution designed for all lifestyles, making it so much more than just a sports hydration drink.
SOS provides all the same benefits of ‘medical’ oral rehydration or a Sports Hydration Solution with a number of additional benefits. Check out our 5 emojis:

So, what’s in SOS that makes it different from the rest?
When it comes to sports drinks, it’s important to consider tonicity. Tonicity refers to the concentrations of solute within a solution: for example, if you poured lots of sugar into a glass of water, the solution would contain a high solute concentration. Sports drinks have various tonicities for different functions, such as providing hydration, energy or both!
Many commercial sports drinks are designed to fuel your workouts and replenish energy stores quickly. That’s why they contain high concentrations of carbohydrates, like sugar, which makes the drink hypertonic and less effective for hydration. You can think of hypertonic drinks as ‘energy’ sports drinks.
Some sports drinks can also be isotonic, which means they contain equal parts solute and water. These drinks are designed to provide an energy boost as well as hydrate the body but are much less effective than oral rehydration solutions for fast hydration. Lastly, there are hypotonic drinks which provide the most efficient composition for fast and effective hydration as they contain a lower concentration of carbohydrates. Hypotonic drinks are ‘hydration’ sports drinks.
Independent third party tests analyzed the osmolarity of popular sports drinks and SOS RTD. As you can see, SOS had the quickest absorption rate, and the lowest sugar.
10x More Chloride
Our co-founder, Dr. Blanca Lizaola-Mayo, added almost 10x more chloride to make for the most efficient solution to help our bodies replenish electrolytes lost through sweat and keep up with an active lifestyle.
3x Less Sugar
SOS also contains 3x less sugar whilst still keeping the 1:1 ratio of sugar to sodium which helps increase osmolarity of the drink and make it super hypotonic for much faster and effective hydration.
Added Magnesium, Zinc & More
Keep an eye out for our new Ready To Drink range which has even more added goodness with vitamins B6, B12, C, D and Folic acid!
SOS: The Fastest Way to Rehydrate
SOS is a hypotonic solution which means it is effective at driving more absorption of fluids into the body and rehydrating quickly. We had our product tested by an independent third party to provide full transparency and show you that we have nothing to hide. We can proudly say that SOS is one of the most hypotonic solutions on the market, meaning it provides the fastest hydration around so you can keep up with your day-to-day life. You can see more on the test findings here.
